Look For the Helpers
If you’re seeing this, it’s for good reason.
Since 2021, Known — a collection of friends, mentees and mentors passionate about no-B.S. impact — has been preparing for the challenging moment we’re in, both overtly and in less visible ways.
Maybe you’re among those who have followed Known members’ secret battle with the FDA to finally take the birth control pill over-the-counter (and make the morning-after-pill more accessible)?
Or you saw one of us testify on the dangers of Facebook in congress (after having a front row seat in building it).
Perhaps you caught the historic revival of the barrier-breaking documentary, Eyes on the Prize (III), produced by Known member Joy Gorman Wettels (who is now rebooting Little House on the Prairie).
If you did, then you caught rare footage of Known founding advisor, Ambassador Attallah Shabazz’s father, Malcolm X, who would have turned 100 this year. They both inspired our commitment to talk about finance with an eye to always “make it plain.”
You probably heard Known founding member and WeWork co-founder, Miguel McKelvey’s 2nd interview on Guy Raz’s popular podcast “How I Built This,” where he waxes fondly about his work with Known.
Or maybe you've just sat quietly with one of us, broken bread and bonded over our shared values.
If you’re seeing this, you’ve probably been watching.
And we, in turn, have likely been learning about you and your work. In times like these, it’s easy to notice how people move in the world. But a lot more challenging to spot people of integrity who are committed to doing good (especially for us, in finance).
As a result, despite our aspirations to make big impact, we have kept our membership small, but highly impactful.
Whether through our clients (like Issa Rae/Hoorae, Microsoft or the YMCA), or via our investors (like the Gamble family, the youngest woman to make partner at Goldman, or the first Latina to own a multibillion-dollar mortgage brokerage), we surround ourselves with people who share our hope of re-building finance as a tool for good.
For the first time in years, in June 2025, we are opening up our group to a small number of new members, to finance a key acquisition and grow our impact.
If you’re seeing this, consider it your invitation to explore with us if now is the time to join the Known family.
Please reach out to your Known contact soon, for next steps.
